Your information stays yours.
We will only use what you give us to respond to you and to do the work you asked us to do. This page says how, in plain language.

What we collect
When you send us a message, we collect the name, email address, organization, and message you choose to give us. That is it. We do not ask for anything we do not need in order to reply.
If you sign up for updates about a project, we collect your email address for that purpose only.
If you make a donation, our payment processor collects the information needed to complete your gift. We receive your name, email, and donation details so we can thank you and send a receipt, but we never see or store your full card number.
When you visit the site, we automatically receive basic technical information, such as your browser type and the pages you view, through privacy-respecting analytics. We do not use this to identify you personally.
How we use it
We use your information to respond to you, to continue a conversation you started, to process and acknowledge donations, and to send updates you asked for. Nothing more.
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your information with anyone for their own purposes. This is especially true of our donors: we never sell or trade donor information, and we do not share it except as needed to process your gift or as required by law.
Who helps us run this
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate. They may handle your information only to provide their service to us, and they are not permitted to use it for anything else.
How long we keep it
We keep correspondence as long as it is useful to the relationship, and we remove it on request. We keep donation records as long as the law requires for tax and reporting purposes. If you ask us to delete what we are not required to keep, we will.
Cookies and analytics
We use basic, privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are helpful. We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can unsubscribe from updates using the link in any email. Write to hello@knownfor.org and a person will answer you.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights, including in California. We honor these requests regardless of where you live. To make one, just contact us.
Children’s privacy
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information you share with us. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
Other sites we link to
We sometimes link to other sites, such as thequestionsweask.com, our donation processor, or crisis resources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not cover them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so plainly on this page and update the date above.
